How does the virtual consultation work?

What can be assessed remotely?

Treatments

Specialist gum care: periodontal and gum aesthetic treatment

Healthy, well-shaped gums are the foundation of every lasting smile and every successful implant.
Our gum care is led by Dr Joseph Gakonyo, whose postgraduate training includes periodontitis and regenerative medicine at the University of Bern and periodontal esthetics and gum-recession surgery at the Zucchelli Institute in Bologna. We treat active gum disease to protect your teeth and jawbone, and we can regrow lost gum tissue for both health and appearance. Clear photographs of your smile and gum line, together with any recent X-rays, let us advise remotely on which treatment you need and how many visits it will take.

Clinical note: A virtual consultation does not replace a clinical examination. Your specialist confirms the diagnosis and final plan in person, using 3D CBCT imaging where needed, and any change to your quote is explained before treatment begins. For severe pain, swelling or trauma, call +254 743 111 999 immediately.

Discretion and data protection

Your consultation takes place on an encrypted platform. Records are accessible only to your treating clinicians and are handled in accordance with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019. A consent & confidentiality agreement is available on request.

Is teledentistry clinically reliable?

For consultation, triage and treatment planning, yes. A 2022 peer-reviewed review in Healthcare found that online dental consultations "can minimize costs, maximize time, and provide more convenient care options for both patients and dentists," while noting that they do not replace a clinical examination. Our process reflects both points.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a virtual consultation cost?

KES 3,000 (approximately USD 23) for all patients, payable when booking by M-Pesa, any major credit or debit card, or transfer to our USD account. The full amount is deducted from your fees when you visit the clinic.

Why is the fee in Kenya Shillings?

All our fees are set in KES. Card payments are converted by your card provider at its prevailing rate. If you pay into our USD account, we confirm the exact USD amount when you book.

Is a second opinion free?

Yes. If you have a treatment plan from another dentist, send it with your X-rays or scans and we will return a written, evidence-based second opinion at no cost and with no obligation. If you would prefer to discuss it with a specialist by video, the standard KES 3,000 consultation fee applies, deducted from your visit fees.

How can I pay from outside Kenya?

You can pay by any major credit or debit card, or by bank transfer to our USD account. Transfer details are sent with your booking confirmation. International transfer charges are paid by the sender, so the full consultation fee reaches us.

Who will I consult with?

Dr Joseph Gakonyo or the specialist on our team best suited to your treatment. You will know their name before your appointment.

Do I need a visa to visit Kenya for treatment?

Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), applied for online at etakenya.go.ke. It typically takes about 3 working days, and we provide an invitation letter on request. Check the latest requirements for your nationality.

How far is the clinic from the airport?

About 20 km from JKIA, roughly 35 minutes via the Nairobi Expressway. We can arrange your transfer.

Can I combine treatment with a safari?

Yes. Many patients go on safari while their restorations are being made, and we can arrange safari packages.

Do you treat complex cases other clinics have declined?

Yes. We are a referral centre for complex bone-grafting and implant-revision cases in East and Central Africa.

Can gum problems be assessed online?

Yes, for planning. Photographs of your gum line and any recent X-rays show us recession, inflammation and gum shape, so we can recommend periodontal or gum aesthetic treatment. Gum pocket depths are then measured at your first visit.

How accurate is the quote?

A detailed estimate based on your records, confirmed after your in-person examination. We explain any change before treatment begins.

Which video platform do you use?

Google Meet. We send a secure link, and no installation is needed.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. Records are encrypted, restricted to your clinical team and protected under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
