Dr. Joseph Gakonyo
Dr. Joseph Gakonyo qualified as a dentist from the University of Nairobi in 2009 and completed his internship at Kenyatta National Hospital the following year. He later graduated with a diploma in Oral Implant Dentistry in 2015 and an MSc degree in Oral Implantology in 2018 both from the University of Pretoria. He has continually attended advanced training in the field of oral implantology at various universities and institutions around the globe, with the most recent (2023) being “Reconstructive Periodontal and Plastic Surgery in the esthetic zone” by Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli, in Bologna, Italy.
From 2011 to 2013, he worked in a govern hospital in Kajiado, Kenya. He later worked as a tutorial fellow at the University of Nairobi between 2013 and 2018, where he lectured and was a clinical instructor on restorative dentistry for undergraduate students and oral implantology for postgraduate students.
Dr Joseph Gakonyo is an accredited international speaker with a clear and systematic approach to problem solving. He is in private practice in Nairobi, focusing on oral implantology specializing in guided implant surgery, three-dimensional bone augmentation and soft tissue regeneration, full-arch restorations, mucogingival esthetic surgery around teeth & implants, and the management of implant complications. He is also a consultant in implantology in various dental institutions in East Africa. Dr. Gakonyo is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) , director of the ITI Study Club Nairobi, an ITI accredited speaker and also an examiner of the ITI Diploma. Dr. Joseph is an active member of European Association for Osseointegration. (EAO)
Dr. Joseph Gakonyo is an opinion leader for several international dental companies with which he organizes numerous lectures, workshops, and hands-on courses. His passion is knowledge sharing on innovative products and procedures. He has also undertaken different research projects and published scientific articles in the field of implant dentistry in local and international journals.
